is a British Labour Peer, former UK Secretary of State for Defence,
Convenor of the Top Level Group of Parliamentarians for Multilateral Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation and Chair of the Executive Board of the European Leadership Network (ELN). He was co-chair of the 2011/2013 cross-party Trident alternatives review panel commissioned by the government to look into the future of Britain’s nuclear policy, whose report was published 7 days before this interview took place.
